Nathan’s teaching approach grows from a simple truth: learning to play music is most rewarding when it connects you with others. He maintains an intentionally small studio of dedicated students who want to explore acoustic guitar styles—from jazz and bluegrass to old-time music—while becoming part of a larger musical community.
Beyond teaching technique and repertoire, he focuses on preparing you for real-world playing experiences. Whether your goal is joining a jazz jam session, sitting in at a bluegrass circle, or finding your place in the local music scene, He’ll help you develop the skills and confidence to make meaningful musical connections. Nathan specializes in:
Traditional Jazz & Swing Guitar
Gypsy Jazz (Django Reinhardt style)
Bluegrass & Old-Time Accompaniment
Building Repertoire for Social Playing
Understanding Musical Traditions & Etiquette
Nathan’s students don't just learn to play—they become part of a community of musicians who share, grow, and perform together. Currently accepting a limited number of dedicated students. Please reach out through the contact form to discuss availability and whether you’d be a good fit for working together.

Hot House West is transforming Salt Lake City's music landscape, one connection at a time. As a nonprofit organization, we're creating an ecosystem where acoustic music thrives—where beginners find mentors, experienced players discover new collaborators, and everyone has a chance to grow.
Our community spans traditional jazz to old-time music, from weekly jam sessions to festival performances. We believe that great music scenes aren't built in practice rooms or concert halls alone, but in the spaces where musicians of all levels come together to share, learn, and create.
Since becoming a nonprofit in 2023, we've launched initiatives that bridge the gap between aspiring and established musicians. Through our flagship Swing Renaissance events, partnerships with major festivals like Moab and Vail, and ongoing community programming, we're proving that Utah can stand alongside cities like Austin and Nashville as a hub for acoustic music.
What sets us apart is our belief that music flourishes outside conventional pathways. Whether you're a seasoned professional looking for new collaborators, or someone who's always dreamed of playing but never found the right opportunity, Hot House West offers the tools, connections, and performances spaces to help you thrive.
Join us in building something extraordinary—a music scene where tradition meets innovation, where every player has a path forward, and where Utah's unique voice rings out clear and strong.
